Dear Candidate:
Welcome to RA Selection for the 2022-2023 school year.
Being a Resident Assistant is one of the most valuable experiences
available to today’s college student. This position teaches numerous skills
that provide students with invaluable learning opportunities far beyond their
time serving in this role. The RA role is a great first step to building the
skills needed to be successful in your professional career while in and after
college, we hope you are excited to join our team!
You have reached the application site to apply to be a Resident
Assistant (RA). By applying for the Resident Assistant position, you
are applying for a position that serves both new students and returning
students. In the application process, you will also have the opportunity to
apply to an RA for a Living Learning Community, an RA for the Honors Community,
an RA for the UI REACH Program, or an RA for the Bucksbaum Early Entrance
Academy. You are able to apply for as many positions as you would
like.
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

Must be in good conduct
standing with the University.
·
Must be current
University of Iowa full-time student.
Must be enrolled in at least 12 credits during the fall 2019 and spring 2020
semesters.
·
At the time of
application have an overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.
·
Must maintain a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.5 each semester during the term of employment.
·
For each semester of
employment, RAs must achieve a minimum of 2.0 semester GPA, and pass 70% of all
credits attempted each semester.
·
Employment is for an
entire academic year, single semester employment (due to study abroad, early
graduation, etc.) is not available.
·
If hired as an RA, must
attend mandatory pre-fall training (dates will be between August 1 - August 12,
2022) and winter training (dates will be between January 11 - 12, 2023).
·
Must be available to
work during Opening Week and On Iowa! (August 12 - 21, 2022).
·
May be involved in up to
ten hours of additional involvement (on or off campus) with supervisor
approval.
·
Resident Assistants
cannot serve concurrently as a member of the Undergraduate Student Government Cabinet,
including Speaker and Speaker Pro Tempore, for the 2022-2023 academic year.
·
Your financial aid
package can be affected if hired as a RA, and it is your responsibility to
contact the office of Financial Aid to learn how your financial aid may be
impacted.
·
Must successfully
complete a criminal background check.
A quick overview of the
application and timeline process:
·
Applications
will be due by 12pm (noon) on Monday, January 31, 2022.
o Applications include: Demographic information
and a response to an essay question. Additional essays may be required for
additional positions that you choose to apply for.
·
In
order to apply for an RA position, all candidates must attend an information
meeting, which will be held over several dates to choose from and candidate can
choose to attend a session that is in person or is virtual. You will sign into
the start of the meeting and will be emailed a code to access the RA
application website with 48 hours after the meeting.
· Conduct and GPA checks will be completed prior
to interview invites
· Interview invites will go out to candidates by
email by February 3
· Interviews will take place February 8 – February
12, candidates will sign up online for an interview. Both in person and virtual
interviews will be offered.
· Offers for RA positions will be emailed by March
4.
The Resident Assistant position receives a salary of $5,000.00 pro-rated over a
10 month employment period. Other benefits include the experience you will gain
while interacting with students and staff in your residence hall community. As
a condition of employment as a Resident Assistant you will be provided a single
room, a full meal plan, and $100 Hawk Dollars a semester during the 2022-2023.
Please note, that the
current RA staff support students in isolation and quarantine due to COVID-19
by delivering meals, prepping rooms, and responding to emergency situations.
Rounds are completed each time RAs serve on call and will interact with
residents within the community.
